Club News

NOTE:
06/27/10:  KBIC General Meeting, 1:30pm; Since there is no Ceili in June, the meeting will be held at the St. Mary’s Convent in Wappingers Falls. We will be showing a video after the meeting, “The Story of the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem.”

There has been a considerable amount of discussion and planning behind the scenes related to returning the KBIC to its place  as the pre-eminent Irish organization in the mid-Hudson Valley.   As a result, we have an ambitious and exciting list of things that we, as a club, will do between now and the end of the year.
We will be organizing an evening trip to go see Aoife Clancy in East Durham during Irish Arts Week in July.  Aoife will be performing with Robbie O’’Connell as part of the Clancy Legacy Concert, sponsored by the KBIC,  on October 9, 2010.
August is our annual picnic.
September is a very busy month with a planned bus trip to the Famine Memorial in New York and Celtic Day at Mills Mansion.  Celtic Day has been the premier showcase for the club for the last decade and we intend to make our presentation even better this year.
The Neilson Day commemoration will be expanded to try and bring in more public interest and participation.
As if that isn’t enough, the Board has been working on a revision of the Club by-laws to bring them up to date.  The revisions will be submitted to the general membership in October and will be voted on at the November Meeting.

We Need Your Help!

If you have already read the Club News, you know that the KBIC  has its work cut out for itself. Like most organizations, the KBIC operates under the 80/20 rule.  This means that 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people, usually the same ones every time.
That is OK if there isn’t much going on.  The agenda we have set for ourselves is aggressive and will require the participation of the entire membership.  Right now we have a real need for people to sign on for the following things:
Concert Publicity - Distribute concert posters and fliers in your local area.
Mills Mansion - Take a 2 hour shift at the KBIC booth, carry a flag or a banner at Celtic Day.
Membership - Work with Annie and the Membership Committee to attract new members. Also, make it a goal to bring in one new member each year.
Meetings - Attend meetings.  We have plans to present something of interest, a short film, music, or other activity, as an integral part of every meeting.
Ideas and Suggestions - If you can think of anything that could make the KBIC better, please let us know!

Find a need and fill it!

CONDOLENCES

Condolences to the Masterson family on the death of Hugh Masterson on May 19, 2010. Hugh was a long-time member of the KBIC. Thanks to those who attended the wake and the funeral.

WELL WISHES

Get-well wishes to Kitty Carroll and John White; you remain in our prayers.

Dues

If you are not current with your dues for this year, please catch up.  If you haven’t paid for more than a year and haven’t attended meetings, we will assume that you no longer wish to belong to the KBIC. This is a necessary step we must take as we start our new membership drive and work to carry out our ambitious schedule of events for the year.
